I think we’ve all dated that one guy that, on paper, is perfect. Cute, funny, smart, and totally infatuated with you. By all means, this should be it. This is the guy that should make you feel giddy and excited, the guy who you secretly hope is the one on the other end when you get a text or phone call. If only it were that easy.
Why is it that when you do find that cookie-cutter boyfriend, he’s just not the one that has control of your heart? I was talking to a friend, trying to analyze the relationship that I’m currently in. This guy is the definition of a keeper, let me tell you, but I have to talk myself into it after every time that I see him. I talked to this girl for over an hour, and it wasn’t until she said that one key quote that I really got clarity. “Never settle for anything less than butterflies”; that did it for me.
This past week, I ran into someone that I used to date. The whole time that I talked to him, I was giggly and happy, and the butterflies were so there. Walking away, all I could think about was how much I wish I felt that way with the guy I’m seeing now.
Basically, you can’t talk your heart into it. It’s either there, or it’s not. If you get the butterflies, you know it. There’s nothing better than being with that one person that makes you feel that way- like there’s nowhere else you’d rather be. I wish I felt that way now, but I don’t, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I know that without the butterflies, it really is settling. I deserve more than having to settle.
