My Peace of Mind

Today’s topic? That trend that has dominated the summer. That trend that most people despised and are now wearing. That trend that bears a suspicious resemblance to one of our childhood, with a modern-day update.

Yes, that’s right. Hair feathers. I have to say that I’m one of those hypocrites that has altered my opinion of the hair accessory. I scoffed when I first noticed the birds in some girl’s hair, and may or may not have murmured to my co-worker about how pathetic her attempt at taste-making really was.

Well, things have changed. Don’t get me wrong…I think that this probably started when some 90’s child thought back through the hair wraps that she used to have, spotted a bird overhead, and said “wait, I’ve got it!” She probably told a couple people that supported her totally stupid idea, praying for it to catch on. Somehow, it worked. Maybe it’s the fact that my boss who I’m totally obsessed with has an adorable but subtle pink feather in her hair. Or maybe it’s just that, as my Marketing professor says, you tend to like something more the more you see it (which I’ve extensively argued with, btw). But I kinda like it.

The best [or worst] part? They’re getting bigger. What started as an occasional spotting of a thin little color flash in the midst of a head of hair has migrated into a very obvious sighting of full-on feathers. More than one, often. I’m not so into that part.
